HEART OF DARKNESS…

• Riverdale • S01E05 • Chapter Five: Heart of Darkness • The CW • 2017-02-23 •

“The Blossom family move forward with Jason’s funeral, and a secret agenda; Hermonie seeks Fred’s help; Betty dives deeper  into Jason’s death.”

1.5.png

Veronica’s different than a lot of people. She’s hot, smart, friendly. She has all the characteristics to be one of the it girls at school, if they even have it, yet she choose not to be.

I loved the way that Veronica cared for Cheryl. In her darkest time, she was there. The panic attack, the memorial, those were hard times. We all put on a face and pretend like everything is ok when really, its not. We are hurting and you know what, sometimes we need someone to talk to. So I loved that Veronica was there for Cheryl.

Cheryl’s mom, is probably the worst type of mother that someone can become. How dare you tell your daughter that she cannot give the eulogy at her twin brother’s memorial. Like seriously. Lets take it a step further, the fact the she was beyond pissed and wants to now send Cheryl to boarding school, all because Cheryl wore the white dress and gave the eulogy. Come on. And too think that she was close to pulling her out from in front of everyone. Thanks to Veronica, who said it would only make things worse, that stopped her. I swear the Blossoms are only there for appearances. I get that you have money and are powerful, but it doesn’t give you the right to act the way that you did.

I won’t pretend that I was surprised when Cheryl showed up in front of everyone with the white dress. Especially considering just moments before we saw her in a black dress, unsure and unhappy. She looked beautiful honouring her brother. I really hope that her mother does not send her to boarding school, and that she at least fights, because she deserves to do that much.

I just need to mention that her grandmother, is really creepy. I felt sorry for Betty. I would be terrified in that situation. For her to be holding your hand, thinking that you’re Polly. Then again, I do not blame her because Betty and Archie together would look like Polly and Jason. A blonde and a redhead. You cannot expect a nearsighted elderly woman who might not be able to tell the difference, to be able to tell the difference. Just looking at her is already creeping me out. Imagine thinking you’re the only ones in the room, even though its not your house, and boom there is an old lady sitting creepily in a corner. Like no way. That would freak me the eff out.

The more and more that I watch these episodes, I realize that Archie and Jason do look alike. Think about it. Is there something that we don’t know yet. Are they related? What about Archies mom, does she have anything to do with it? They’re both red heads; Archie and Jason. It just can’t be a coincidence can it.

Archie is a really sweet guy. You would think that for someone who was all set on football in the beginning of the episode, would rather Reggie be Captain. Like come on. I thought you wanted a scholarship. It just shows that people are not who you really think they are, and we have to get used to that. Right?

Archie’s dad, Fred seems to be a really sweet individual. Obviously it was sad when Hermione said that the movie was not a date. Poor guy thought it was. I thought it was too. When she called him about the snake, it was sweet for him to come when he did not have to. A message brought to you by the South Side Serpents. Don’t mess with snakes I guess. And it was the nicest thing for him to give her the bookkeeping job, even after he said it was not a good idea to have the wife of an individual who was on trial for fraud do it. I guess he changed his mind after all, when he realized that Hermione is not like her husband.

This episode made me realize how effed up Betty’s family actually is. Her parents are hiding something when it comes to Polly. Does it have anything to do with Jason’s murder? I know that her mom was glad that Jason was missing at first. And  why would Betty’s dad steal the files from the Sheriff? They’re hiding something, and protecting something as well.

THE LAST PICTURE SHOW…

• Riverdale • S01E04 • Chapter Four: The Last Picture Show • The CW • 2017-02-16 •

“Jughead fights to keep the local drive-in open; Betty and Veronica investigate Ms Grundy, uncovering some startling information about her past.”

1.4.png

I know one thing for sure by this point. I love Veronica. Her attitude, her confidence, her clothes. The girl is on point if I may say so. Ugh so jealous. She does not take crap from anyone, and thats a good thing, to not let people walk over you.

I kind of felt sorry for her. I think she’s finally realized who her father is. And its not an easy thing to process. He may be on trial at the moment, but his connections to be able to buy the drive-in says something. Its worse if she was close to him, because its not like she wants to think bad things about her father. I enjoyed seeing how she stood up for her mom. She’s not embarrassed of her mother waitressing at Pops to help make ends meet. It just shows that she is a special daughter.

So Betty and Veronica found out about Archie and Ms. Grundy. Jughead did not say anything, even though he knew the truth. I don’t think Archie realized it, but he was the one who confirmed to Betty that something actually happened between him and Ms. Grundy. While Betty and Archie were having their conversation, presumably heated from someone else’s perspective, Veronica overheard which is how she found out.

I understand that Betty cares for Archie, and why she did what she did. She just wanted to protect her friend, ensure that he is safe and is not being used by someone who is older than him. But then I don’t agree with the breaking into someone’s car. On a side note, how? Like seriously, why would your father teach you how to do that? Even Veronica was surprised.

You can see that their friendship goes both ways, Archie and Bettie. Even though Archie has every reason to hate Betty for what happened, he doesn’t. Its the worse thing to lose a friend that you’ve known for so long. It was not her fault that Alice found out the truth.

I really want to believe Ms. Grundy’s reason for having the gun and fake ID. By the way, her name is actually Katherine Gibson. But for some reason, it does not sit well with me. Her reasons. I just feel that something is missing. Especially with that ending. I guess if thats what they say, thats what we should believe.

I think Betty’s finally stood up to her mother. Sometimes Alice can take her actions too far. First she demands that Betty and Archie not be friends anymore. Then, she goes through Betty’s diary and finds out about Ms. Grundy. Like come on. I would hate for anyone to read my diary, because its my private thoughts at the end of the day. Don’t effing read it. I was proud of Betty when she stood up to her mom, in front of Archie, his dad and Ms. Grundy. Lets hope she has been put into her place once and for all. But I highly doubt that.

I felt really bad for Jughead. At first you can see that he has some weird sentiment towards the drive in, but in the ending you understand why he is so attached to the place. Its basically his home. And now he has to look for another one. Moving forward, I want to hear more backstory about Jughead because there is this mystery which surrounds him. Not sure about the other people, but I knew that guy at the end was his father, who is part of the South Side Serpents. Why doesn’t he live with his father? That will be interesting to find out.

I know I’ve not really talked about the sheriff’s son Kevin, but jeez is he the best gay friend that someone could ever have. I really like his bond with Betty and the new friendship with Veronica. The make out scene on the fence. Gotta go for the bad guy. Huh? I hope we find out who broke into his house later on.

BODY DOUBLE…

• Riverdale • S01E03 • Chapter Three: Body Double • The CW • 2017-02-09 •

“Cheryl comes clean about when she last saw Jason; Betty and Jughead investigate Jason’s death Veronica and Ethel investigate a shame book.”

I think that this entire show is starting to confuse me a bit. Its interesting, but at the same time, its boring. I am really trying to get into the story, but so far its not my favourite show.

1.3.png

I’m starting to enjoy Veronica’s character a lot. She just represents girl power. How strong females can be if you really put your mind to it and not allow guys to do what they want with you.

She ends up going on a date with Marcus, who is the captain of the varsity football team at school. The next day to find out that he sluts shames her. Like really. She did absolutely nothing to be slut  shamed. And you know what, I agree with her decision to get revenge on him and his friends instead of telling the principle about what happened. Because think about it, what good would that have really done. Huh? Too make it worse the varsity football players have a “play book” rating the women they have slut shamed. Like come on. Are you effing kidding me? Its good that they brought this topic on the show because it happens in reality. I think that men need to watch what they say and do to women.

It was hard seeing Veronica’s mom find out about what was happening to her daughter, because I think that as a parent that is your worst nightmare. To hear that you child, no matter how old they are, is being bullied at school. Its not Hermione’s fault, its not like the children tell their parents in the first place what is going on.

I really loved Betty’s confidence during the episode. Like girl power? Seriously, she’s growing more confident day by day. I think she did go a bit too far with Marcus in the hot tub. Like what if it went out of control and she ended up hurting him. Even though I don’t really give a shit about him, I was still scared. You know. But its not to say that I don’t like her confidence because I enjoying seeing that growth. When she put on the red lipstick in her room, you could have seen that glow. Then her mom goes and wipes the lipstick off, then hands her a pink lipstick. Like WTF. Come on. Just leave the girl with the red. She looks stunning in it. On a side note, did covergirl sponsor this episode because the lipstick brand was obviously covergirl. I mean it was an ad placement. They did not have to show the brand.(Sorry but not sorry. Business student coming out here.)

In the last episode, Cheryl declares that she is  guilty and allows the sheriff to take her away. But the thing is Cheryl is not really guilty if you think about it. She just omitted the truth. It seems this whole show is doing that. Ok so here’s the story.

Jason wanted to escape Riverdale and his  parents, and he needed Cheryl’s help to do so. The plan was to fake his death by falling into the water, hide away for a month and then contact Cheryl. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned as you can see. This kind of explains why they never found the body when he was first missing. Cheryl did not kill Jason. Someone else did. We just don’t know who yet.

Sometimes I think that Betty’s mom takes her things to far. Did she really have to reveal the details of the autopsy to the public. Couldn’t she have stayed out of it, and leave it for the sheriffs office to find out or for the family to be left in peace. She had no right to reveal the information. She deserved being slapped in the face by Penelope. Just saying.

Its finally time that Archie’s dad is finally believing in his music. And it was nice of him to soundproof the garage so that he could practice. Come on you have to agree that is the sweetest thing a parent could have done for their child.

I really hope that Betty does not become like her mom in the reporting/journalism business. Its nice to see that she is starting the school paper back again with Jughead. What is not nice to see is that Archie’s secret may almost come out, and Jughead might not be able to do much about it.

A TOUCH OF EVIL…

• Riverdale • S01E02 • Chapter Two: A Touch of Evil • The CW • 2017-02-02 •

“Archie pleads with Ms. Grundy to come forward with what they heard; Cheryl deals with the pressure of Jason’s death; Jughead stumbles upon Archie’s secret.”

After watching this episode, I have a few questions that I really hope is answered sooner or later in the upcoming episodes.

1.2.png

It turns out that Jason did not die on July 4th, but actually a week later. I think this really needs to be explained better. Like what do they mean by that. And how is Cheryl guilty. I do not understand. Was she the one who killed him? Jughead said in the ending of the episode that the autopsy revealed things that we did not know. What could the autopsy have revealed? Would it help in solving Jason’s murder?

The upcoming episodes are going to be interesting, whether or not these question are answered and how fast they are answered.

Betty was hurt by Archie from the last episode. Even though she could move on and remain friends with him, she is not ready yet. Its difficult for her to pretend. Lets be honest here, it is difficult to hide your feelings. Also, I understand that most times the people we like, don’t like us back. Hey, I’m kind of dealing with a situation like that right now. It’s hard. I can tell you that . But I think in the end, everything is going to be fine with her and Archie. They have been friends forever, and nothing can really break this bond. Just look at the ending of the episode when Archie and Jughead walked into Pops, it was like everything was back to normal once again.

Veronica is not a bad person. We need to remember that. I get that what she did at Cheryl’s party hurt Betty, but that was not her intention. She was just playing Cheryl’s games. Who else would have run after someone who is as mean as Cheryl. Most people would not have even cared in the first place what happened to her. And she was not using Betty. With all that happened in the last episode, Veronica tried to make it up to Betty. She brought her flowers, cupcakes and had a mani pedi for the two of them to do together. Come on. You have to admit that is the sweetest thing ever for someone to do.

So Jughead found out that something happened between Archie and the teacher. He saw the two of them by mistake almost kissing in the music room. Like come on, couldn’t the two of you wait till after school was done for the day. Why did the two of you have to kiss during school hours.

Side note: Why is Jughead called Jughead. That cannot be his real name can it? Because I don’t think any parent in their right mind would name their kid that. Unless they are hippies who like unique names. Its like torturing your kid for life with a name like that.

THE RIVER’S EDGE…

• Riverdale • S01E01 • Chapter One: The River’s Edge • The CW • 2017-01-26 •

“As a new school year begins, the town still reels from Jason Blossom’s magic death; Archie decides to pursue a career in music; Cheryl Blossom stirs up trouble.”

It took a while, like 10 minutes, for me to be interested, but overall I enjoyed the episode. Honestly, I was skeptical to begin watching it because the trailer was not interesting enough for me to try it out and there was too much hype surrounding it.

1.1.1

So this is the thing, the moment I started liking Veronica was the moment I got into what was happening. Her one liners and confidence was what drew me in. Its strange, but as the new girl in town I really like her. I know its sometimes cliche to have the new girl as suspicious and sneaky, but she’s not really like that. All she and her mom wants is to start over in a new town because her father embezzled money.

Veronica comes to town and may seem threatening because it seems that she wants to take Archie from Betty. But that is not her purpose. Instead, she ends up increasing Betty’s confidence. Because of Veronica, Betty gets the chance to be a cheerleader, since Cheryl is the one making the decision and Cheryl does not like Betty. If not, there was no way Betty could have become a cheerleader. And that confidence allowed Betty to stand up to her mother for once.

With Veronica’s help, Betty is finally able to confront Archie about the way she feels for him. Betty might be the type of girl who has liked Archie for who knows how long, and in comes Veronica and her feelings for him are out. It may have ended in tears and the two of them being hurt, but at least they both got what they had to say and the way they felt out to each other.

Maybe the reason why Archie is not interested in Betty is because he likes a certain teacher at his school. Its just one of those cliche forbidden romances that are in novels and television.

At least Betty and Archie finally went out together, even though it was not only the two of them since Veronica was also his date. They all went to homecoming. Archie was one lucky guy to have two beautiful ladies by his side. There were no problems since homecoming was fine, but the afterparty, the same cannot be said, because that is when the problem started.

Cheryl put Archie and Veronica together for ‘7 minutes in heaven’ just to hurt Betty. Isn’t the intention/assumption of this game to make out? Maybe she knows that Betty has a crush on Archie and that was revenge for the cheerleading tryouts. Who knows. Cheryl has her plans all figured out it seems.

No offence, but Cheryl is like the Queen bitch of Riverdale High. She’s a junior at the school and she is wealthy, entitled and manipulative. The three best words I could use to describe her. She also has a twin named Jason who was missing.

Towards the ending of the episode, he was found but not alive.  Instead, his body showed up in the river with a bullet in his head. Its going to be interesting finding out who killed him. They said someone is going to be arrested on Tuesday during 5th period, so I wonder who that is.

Turns out that Archie and his summer fling, i.e. the teacher, were near the lake (which was where Jason’s body was found)  when they heard a gunshot, but never reported it. Then again, how could they because remember its a forbidden romance.
